Limit Alcohol Consumption

How much alcohol consumption is ok?

Limit alcohol intake to:

  • 1 drink a day for women*
  • 2 drinks a day for men

Excessive alcohol consumption increases your blood pressure and is harmful to your overall health. Drinking too much alcohol can increase your chances of having liver disease, heart attack, stroke, certain forms of cancer, and high blood pressure.

*A woman's body generally processes alcohol at a slower rate than a man's body.

What is considered 1 drink?

Since there are different types of alcohol (beer, wine, liquor), 1 drink has different meanings depending on the type of alcohol that you consume. For example:

1 drink of Beer = 12 ounces or 1 can of beer (beer bottles vary in size and carry different quantities of beer)

1 drink of wine = 5 ounces or a glass of wine

1 drink of whiskey = 1.5 ounce or a shot of whiskey
